I love talking to old school people. 80, 90 year olds who are stillĀ sharp, onto it, and have seen a lot. Listening to them you get wisdom that’s been filtered through years of experience. Wisdom that’s seen success and failure, good friends die, grandchildren grow up and marriages that span sixty years.
In other words, wisdom that’s built to last. I reckon this is the kind of knowledge that I want to have. The latest greatest fad is all very well. But the main thing I’ve learnt from the old schoolers is that when you get down to it, it’s all about the people you know and love. And the people who know and love you. Especially when they know you and all your shortcomings, and still love spending time with you.
There’s a saying that if you have two or three true friends by the end of your life, you’ve done well indeed. This is the true gold of life, and it comes into being slowly. Like all things in life, time will tell.
